About This Branch:
A branch library has been located in Chapin since 1949. After being housed in several small locations, the library moved to two rooms in the Alternative School, where it served the public for 19 years. In October 1997, a new 6,500 sq. ft. building was opened that had been constructed with County Library Bond funds. That building provided much more space for collections and also had a 50-seat meeting room.
In 2007, a 1600 sq. ft. addition was constructed using funds from Lexington County. This addition is dedicated to housing the Children's collections, freeing up space in the original building for additional adult materials and more public computers. The branch has a staff of two full-time and five part-time employees.
A wide variety of materials, information, and services are available, including access to the Internet and a wide variety of online databases. There are also numerous programs presented for children and adults.
